Odenton is a town in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It was named after Governor Oden Bowie and is bordered by Gambrills, Severn, Ft. Meade and Crofton.

Many people moving to the area don’t realize that Odenton has a rich history dating back to the 1800’s and was instrumental in assisting the North during the Civil War. Nicknamed “The Town a Railroad Built” and was founded with the construction of the Baltimore Potomac railroad, connecting Baltimore and Washington DC. Train service here began in 1872, and that rail junction is now known as the MARC station. The town grew around the train junction and the houses were built for the railroad workers at the time. In the early 1900’s development of Odenton was spurred by World War I, where US Department of War purchase 19,000 acres of land west of Odenton that would become Fort Meade. The purchase displaced many workers and farmers who inevitably moved west to Odenton.

Odenton still maintains its railroad history and houses numerous tracks transforming Odenton from what once was a farmland region to what it currently is, a residential and commercial hub in Anne Arundel County.

There are several popular school districts in Odenton, including the Piney Orchard school district.
